Why We Love Bali

“Don’t talk about Heaven until you have been to Bali” – Toba Beta

Desa Hay is family business that was started by Canadian father-mother-son team Scott, Julia, and Josh. Their love affair with Bali began many years ago, when Josh first visited the island while traveling around the world. Over the course of many subsequent visits they developed a deep connection with the island for many reasons – most notably for its natural beauty, unique culture, and incredible people. The near perfect weather definitely didn’t hurt either!

Bali is near the equator and has an average yearly temperature of 27 degrees. There is a rainy season that brings cracking thunderstorms and heavy downpours, but honestly a bit of rain at 30 degrees feels pretty darn nice.

Bali offers abundant natural beauty with many beaches, water falls, jungles, rice fields and mountains to explore.  A favourite morning activities is hopping on some scooters and heading in any direction for a three or four hour ride.  The diversity of scenery on the island constantly amazes.

The beauty of the island isn’t limited to its nature – in fact it’s the Balinese people that truly make this place shine.  They are kind and generous, always willing to lend a hand and invite you in.

Bali has a storied past and rich Hindu culture which is seen and felt everywhere you go. There are beautiful temples around every corner where nearly endless rituals, ceremonies and holiday celebrations are happening.
